Slowing down, becoming present and allowing a respectful connection to form between human and horse. This is inspired by the significance of hā - breath - within te ao Māori and the hongi, where the sharing or exchange of breath acknowledges relationship and interconnectedness. HEAL™ does not replicate the hongi; rather, it respectfully draws on the principle that breath can mark the beginning of connection. For children who communicate differently, this creates a powerful non-verbal starting point: you do not have to speak to begin to connect.

Love notes from our community

  • "Our boy recently had a horse riding lesson at HEAL, and I honestly can’t recommend them enough. Evie, was absolutely fantastic—patient, encouraging, and clearly very experienced with children. My son Hendrix (10) felt comfortable and confident right from the start. He rode a beautiful horse named Kass, a 22-year-young gentle angel who was perfect for him. One of the highlights was watching Hendrix lead Kass out of the paddock himself—it was such a special moment and really showed how supportive and confidence-building the lesson was. It was a wonderful experience all around, and we’re so grateful to HEAL for creating such a positive and memorable introduction to horse riding."

  • "Amazing mahi at HEAL Aotearoa. My step daughter has been going to see Evie and Kass for fortnightly sessions. We didn't realize how beneficial the therapeutic side of these sessions would be. We have noticed her confidence grow and grow as she becomes more confident around the horses as well as a reduction in anxiety. Evie is a great teacher with lots of patience and knowledge. We highly recommend seeing if they are a good fit because it started out as just enjoying a ride on the horse as an extra after school activity to try and then learning how to care for a horse but it has ended up being so much more than that. We are so grateful. Isla looks forward to her time with Evie and Kass and hopefully it helps keep her out of some trouble in her teenage years too haha Aku mihi to you Evie."

  • "Just had my second lesson from Sarai and Moose, as an adult returning to riding after some pretty full on health issues. Blown away by how much confidence I've gained and how much fun I'm having in such a short time. Sarai is incredibly kind, supportive, explains things in a clear, positive way and completely understands the physical challenges I'm working with right now. Moose is a delight; so gentle and patient. I can't recommend Māori Equestrian highly enough!"
